Two elements:
1. Aerobic Wheeled bin : 240 litres with 210 litre kraft paper sack. Note that organic material settles in the sack as if on a compost heap. Consideration is being given to production of a 140 litre version for use with 90 litre paper sack.
2. Aerobic kitchen bin : For use with 10 litre gross kraft paper bag.
How it works
1. To create the right conditions for the paper sack to work effectively, it is vital to minimise any resistance to the flow of air; hence the large area of ventilation. The creation of the aerobic conditions allows for collection every two weeks in both winter and summer. The system also coped with the significant minority of households who put their bins out every 4 weeks instead of 2 in the Bexley trial.
2. It is rare for liquids to drip into the base because of the level of ventilation.
3. The means of holding the sacks and bags up involve no moving parts. Simply folding the sack over the coat-hook-like tops of a few of the spacers (no need to bother with all of them) will keep the sack in place.
4. When the wheeled bins are emptied, the spacers running down the length of the bin act like rails creating minimal resistance as the sack and contents slide out;
The wheeled bins are stackable, with spacer inserts which snap into place.
